The department of General Medicine provides broad range of services for diagnosis and treatment of multiple adult medical problems. Management of acute and chronic diseases involving multi-system is done by senior consultant of department of medicine, where co-ordinations between different specialist & holistic care of patient is very much desired. The department provides comprehensive diabetes and endocrine related care for both outpatients and inpatients. Patients with diabetes mellitus are provided with comprehensive and individualized diabetes care using a team approach. The team consists of specialized doctors, nurses and diabetic educators cum nutritionists.
All patients, in addition to being evaluated and treated by doctors, are given individual advice on nutrition, exercise, monitoring of blood glucose, management of medications and sick day guidelines.

Other services provided include evaluation and treatment of blood pressure, thyroid diseases, metabolic bone disease (as well as osteoporosis and osteomalacia), disorders of growth, adrenal and pituitary diseases, and menstrual disorders in women (including the common polycystic ovarian disease - PCOD). The rising epidemic of Obesity is also managed using a team based approach. Infectious diseases are major problem in our community. It includes Malaria, Typhoid fever, Tuberculosis, HIV, Dengue fever, H1N1 etc. Most of these diseases present with fever & general symptoms, which are investigated in depth & treated. Sometimes times these diseases present as Septicemia & shock wherein they are managed in the state-of-the-art medical ICU. Environmental diseases which include diseases due to Industrial chemical exposure, drowning, electrical injuries, radiation injuries, snake bite, lizard bite, dog bite, insect or scorpion bite are treated here.

Pre-operation checks :

Senior consultant of department of General medicine are involved in preoperative checks in addition to anesthetists assessment to manage & pick up existing medical problem prior to surgical procedures as well as to take appropriate measures prior to surgeries. Often consultants are required to manage medical problems coexisting with surgical conditions; Preoperatively, post operatively & during intra operation period.
